The 1993/94 season would see the club finish in a respectable 3rd place in the league but it could have been so different. Rangers would clinch the title on the last day winning by a mere four points. The Steelmen would throw away a great chance as a 3-3 draw at the hands of Raith Rovers on the second last day certainly denied the club its first chance of League glory since 1931. It was a shame as St Johnstone beat the club on the final day of the campaign; ultimately two teams doomed for relegation cost Motherwell the chance of a huge success. Perhaps small consolation was that the club secured a place in the Uefa Cup.
