Signed by Tommy McLean from Queen’s Park in 1989, he was said to be on the verge of great things when a broken leg intervened. He made just two brief outings as a substitute early in the 1989/90 campaign. He moved to Ayr United in June 1991, where he enjoyed greater success at Somerset Park, he then moved on to Stranraer in October 1992. Were it not for a broken leg, Paul McLean would surely have made his mark at Motherwell.
