Signed from Birmingham City in 1978, Dave Latchford was Motherwell’s first choice goalkeeper at the start of the 1978/79 season. He only went on to play in eight straight league games and in those he lost 19 goals losing 7 of the games. He was then soon replaced by the talented Stuart Rennie who had been backup at Falkirk. Dave was a member of a famous footballing family, one brother, Bob, was an England centre forward and another, Peter, a Celtic goalkeeper. He joined Bury in 1979 but would only make a handful of appearances for them before moving on again.
