Ally MacLeod signed Tommy O’Rourke from Meadowbank Thistle in 1979, he had actually caught the attention of the Motherwell management while playing in a forward role having played well over 150 competitive fixtures. In his two years at Fir Park he never really carved out a regular first team place, he was quickly converted to a full back. Tommy made 27 appearances for the club, he was released in 1981 essentially being a victim of the clubs inability to return to Scotland’s top tier. O’Rourke left professional football following his departure from Lanarkshire, he joined Junior outfit Ormiston Primrose.
