John Donnelly signed for Motherwell from Notts County in 1979, the midfielder would only stay at Fir Park for a season and a half, making 27 appearances scoring two goals. John first featured in the latter part of the 1978/79 season as the club sadly slipped to relegation, despite being a regular his games in the First Division were more sporadic and he was eventually sold to Dumbarton with the club netting a fee of £25,000. Donnelly would of course enjoy a more fruitful goal return while at Boghead, his form would win him a move to Leeds United in 1983.
