
He made his first team debut against St Mirren on the 19th September 1959. In 1965, Pat scored twice for Motherwell in the Summer Cup final win over Dundee United, having assumed the captaincy from Bert McCann. He was the hero of the Summer Cup run, netting 8 times in the 10 matches required to land the silverware. In October 1966, Bobby Hewitt sold Pat to Dunfermline Athletic for £17,000 and he went on to play in a European ties. He also went on to play for Clyde and Airdrie.
