Inside forward, John Goodwin was signed in 1961 from Lanarkshire outfit Carluke Rovers. In season 1962/63, John made seven league outings and scored in Motherwell’s impressive 4-1 win over rivals Airdrieonians. He was somewhat unfortunate in that he played for the club when they had an abundance of attacking talent and he couldn’t cement a first team berth as his own. In 1964 after three years service he departed Fir Park, John reverted back to playing in the junior leagues after a spell abroad.
