Dick Hamilton signed for Motherwell in 1947 and he came straight from local side Wishaw Juniors. In his five years at Fir Park, Dick was more often than not the second choice keeper as John Johnston held the number one jersey and proved to be a difficult to displace, but when called upon Hamilton proved to just as reliable between the sticks. At one point in his ‘Well career he had played in every game in Motherwell’s successful 1950 League Cup campaign including a stunning 4-1 victory of Celtic at Parkhead, but sadly he missed the final itself due to injury. Perhaps a highlight of his time with Motherwell was beating Rangers in stunning fashion as the side won 4-0. He became somewhat disillusioned with life in Lanarkshire as he wasn’t playing regularly, he was granted a free transfer in 1952, his next port of call was to join Elgin City.
