Keith Lasley made his first team against Rangers at Ibrox on the 10th December 2000, the Steelmen lost 2-0. He netted his first goal on the last day of the season 2000/01 against St Mirren, he netted only a few minutes into the game the eventual result was 3-3, St Mirren were on their way to the first division. Under Billy Davies, Keith was in and out of the first team, but when Eric Black took over Lasley became a first team regular. He scored a memorable goal at Fir Park against Rangers in a 2-2 draw. This game saw former ‘Well manager Alex McLeish take charge of Rangers for the first time.
