Wing-half, George Murray was signed by manager Bobby Ancell from Kilmarnock Amateurs in 1960. He was the elder brother of Cammy Murray who enjoyed a great spell at St Mirren but also represented Motherwell for a brief time .
While at Motherwell he was capped by Scotland under-23s against France, a game which they won 3-0. His debut in claret and amber came in a 0-0 draw against Dunfermline Athletic at Fir Park in March 1963.
Murray stayed in Lanarkshire for seven years before moving the move further north to join Aberdeen, a move which saw Jimmy Wilson head to Fir Park in part-exchange.
At Pittodrie he would make well over a century of appearances and became a player/coach for a spell, once he retired he focused on his coaching role and also served the Dons as a caretaker manager.
