John Phillips was signed by Bobby Howitt in 1968, coming straight from rivals Airdrieonians where he had made over 80 league appearances scoring 10 goals. In his 2 years at Fir Park the winger would never feature in a League game, he would in fact make just 2 first team appearances with these coming in the 1969/70 League Cup competition, featuring in on 23rd august in a 0-0 draw against East Fife followed by a 4-2 win on the 27th of August against Coatbridge side Albion Rovers. John departed the club in 1970.
