Greg joined Motherwell on loan from Bolton Wanderers in March 2000 and played 10 games as the side put together our push for a European place, which unfortunately was just missed out on. During this spell he quickly became a favourite with the ‘Well fans as his no nonsense style helped shore up what had become a leaky defence. Billy Davies paid out £100,000 to sign Greg from Bolton on a permanent basis. In the next two seasons he was partnered in defence firstly with Benito Kemble then Welshman Karl Ready. He was a popular player at Fir Park and this was probably because of his style of play and his knack for scoring the odd goal, one of which was a delightful volley against Hibernian at Easter Road. His stay at Motherwell ended on a sour note as he was 1 of 19 players to be abruptly released when the club entered administration.
