Archie Williams joined Motherwell just before they won the Scottish Cup in April 1952 and he cost the club £1,000 from Heart of Midlothian. Archie scored 3 goals in a 6-6 draw against Dumbarton – the highest scoring league draw ever in British football. In 1956 he left on a free transfer eventually linking up at East End Park with Dunfermline Athletic.
