A heavy police presence was in operation at Fir Park due to trouble with Celtic fans the previous Saturday when they fell to a surprise 2-0 defeat at the hands of Morton. At Cappielow over crowding and a pitch invasion ensued and a number of arrests were made. Further trouble at Fir Park happened in the East terracing and a number of arrests were made.
