Left Back, John Bryden joined the club in 1952 from Motherwell Juniors. Like many others before him he had the massive task of trying to displace either Willie Kilmarnock or Archie Shaw if he wanted to stake claim to regular first team football at Fir Park. He would only play a handful of first team games for the club filling in for injuries but his name is written in the Motherwell folklore as he was part of the side that beat Dundee United 12-1 during the 1953/54 season which to this day stands as the Steelmen’s record win as well as the Arab’s biggest defeat. John would depart the club on a free transfer and he would eventually sign for East Stirlingshire, however his time at Firs Park didn’t reap any real rewards as he again would struggle to force his way into the side. In 1956 he left senior football joining junior club Kilsyth Rangers.
