Forward, John Capaldi joined the club at the beginning of the 1978/79 season, he came to Motherwell having failed to make the grade at Aston Villa the club spent a modest sum of £15,000 to tempt him to Lanarkshire. His time at Fir Park would prove to be a real struggle not just for John himself but for the club as they would slip to relegation that season. Despite facing somewhat easier opposition the following campaign, Capaldi would still struggle to make his mark before being allowed to leave the club. John made 11 appearances in claret and amber, three of which were starts, eager to try something different he joined Norwegian outfit Pors Greenland. His son Tony was also a professional footballer who played the majority of his career in England serving the likes of Birmingham City, Plymouth Argyle, Leeds United, Cardiff City, Morecambe and Oxford United.
