Mark Shanks was signed by Willie McLean in 1977 and he came direct to Fir Park from Blackburn Rovers. Mark was a determined defender, who made 13 first team appearances for the ‘Well in 1978/79 campaign. At the end of the season he moved to Ayr United to be paired with a young man named Steve Nicol, later of Liverpool and Scotland fame. At the end of season 1984/85 Mark moved to Cyprus as he was released by Ayr United, he linked up with former boss Willie McLean.
