A towering centre half, Jack joined Motherwell in 1948 from Stoneyburn United. During his years in the juniors he had attracted a considerable amount of attention and despite having a number of offers on the table he opted to join the proceedings at Fir Park. He had the misfortune of being backup to Andy Paton who he was never able to oust, Jack would only play 12 games for the club before eventually joining Cowdenbeath in 1952.
