Jim Boyd was signed from Clyde in 1978 for £20,000, a popular player at Shawfield, he played for Lanarkshire and Scottish Schoolboys as well as the Scottish professional youth team, he joined Crystal Palace as an apprentice when he was 15 years old. At Motherwell he really struggled to establish himself who of course were toiling in the Premier League and would eventually slip to relegation. After just one year at Fir Park having featured in only 15 first team games, Jim moved back to Clyde.
