A pacey winger, on his day Willie Barclay was a great player, he was very tricky and had a creative spark which could enthral the crowd. His debut for the club was indeed a memorable one, on the opening day of the 1945/46 season he would help the club record a fantastic 3-0 over Rangers at Ibrox. Willie signed for the club in 1945 after being in impressive form for his hometown club Larkhall Thistle, he would stay at Fir Park for four years making 69 appearances scoring 7 goals. English side Bury offered the club £4,000 in 1949, a huge sum of money in those days which the club couldn’t refuse to turn down.
