Alex Caie joined Woolwich Arsenal from Victoria United in February 1897 but his stay was brief before moving on. Before joining Motherwell Alex had spells with Millwall, Newcastle and Brentford. It was from there, he signed for Motherwell in 1904. Throughout his career, Alex had a weight problem and because of this some of his colleagues dubbed him ‘Big Sandy’. Alex would only feature on 6 occasions before departing the club. He would have a brief spell with Aberdeen but wouldn’t make the first team. Not long after leaving Fir Park he decided to emigrate to Canada. Sadly he was killed in a rail accident in Lowell, Massachusetts on the 17th November 1914.
