John signed for the club in 1955, coming straight from the junior ranks, having been playing with Kirkintilloch Rob Roy beforehand. He was a full back who found first team opportunities very limited, only featuring in three league games and three league cup games in the space of four years. In August 1959 he was allowed to leave and join English side Chesterfield on a free transfer.
