Bobby Donnelly

Bobby DonnellyTeenage center back, Bobby Donnelly came through the Motherwell youth system. It was Terry Butcher who handed him his senior debut with this coming in a League Cup tie against Hamilton Accies early in the 2005/06 season which the side won 2-1 thanks to a late goal. Despite putting in a decent performance he wouldn’t make his SPL debut until the penultimate game of the season as a youthful ‘Well side beat already relegated Livingston 1-0 at Almondvale. He certainly had the tools to be a successful defender as he was big in stature and physically strong. Bobby would feature early in the 2006/07 season as injuries took their toll on the ‘Well defence. He would endure a tough afternoon against Rangers on the opening day fixture as the side were somewhat fortunate to only fall to a 1-2 reversal.. As regulars returned from injury Bobby would just seem to drift out of the first team picture before being sent out on loan to Stranraer. Donnelly would be freed at the end of the season, he joined Airdrie United soon thereafter. He would make over 60 first team appearance at Airdrie before moving onto Ayr United but he endured an injury ravaged spell at Somerset Park. In 2011 he had a trial with Albion Rovers and after playing a handful of games for the wee rovers he opted to join junior outfit Kirkintilloch Rob Roy instead.
