A determined character, Morgaro Gomis had forged a decent career in Scottish football before joining Motherwell on loan from Hearts on transfer deadline day in February 2016, as he had enjoyed spells two spells with Dundee United and one with Cowdenbeath. Morgaro had spent the early part of his career moving around to different lower league clubs in England without really settling, it was a short but impressive spell at Central Park that won him a move to Tannadice where he would enjoy Scottish Cup success in 2010 where he would play a pivotal role in the Tangerines rigid midfield. Gomis would get a call up to the Senegal national side for a string of impressive performances and he would win two caps.
Morgaro had a spell at English Championship side Birmingham City but failed to cement a first team place before returning to Tannadice in 2013, his second spell with United wasn’t as fruitful as his first and before too long he departed where he joined Hearts. At Tynecastle he became a first team regular albeit in the Championship where he helped the Jambos win promotion in 2015, in fairness there was tough competition in the league as Hibernian and Rangers were also in the fight for promotion.
Morgaro was a fairly small and compact defensive midfielder with slick passing ability, his work rate couldn’t be faulted, when he joined Motherwell the club were pretty much in a relegation battle but they would enjoy a strong last few months of the season where they would eventually finish 5th in the table. Gomis made his debut at Firhill the day after he joined, sadly the Steelmen fell to 1-0 defeat with the Jags netting on the 90th minute.
