Pat Gardner



Pat GardnerPat Gardner was signed by Willie McLean from his brother Jim at Dundee United, it cost £12,000 and the transfer came in October 1974. While at Raith Rovers, Pat had been a prolific marksmen before moving to Dunfermline Athletic for £17,000 in 1967. At East End Park, he played in the European Cup Winners Cup semi-final and played in the 1968 Scottish Cup final where Dunfermline defeated Hearts. In 1972 he became Jim McLean’s first signing at Dundee United and he helped them to reach the 1974 Scottish Cup final against Celtic, when he netted against Hearts in a semi-final replay. At Fir Park he was to help the side just squeeze into the inaugural Premier League. But Pat was only able to last just two years at Fir Park before moving on to Arbroath. His son Jim also played for Motherwell briefly in 1990’s.
