Robert joined Motherwell from Aldershot and he made his bow in the spring of 1957 at left back. But unfortunately for the ‘Well each of the 4 games rob played in that season ended in defeat and with the likes of Willie McSeveney, Pat Holton and Ian McFadyen on board at the time. Robert’s Motherwell career was effectively up. He left with 10 games under his belt.
