Born in High Blantyre in December 1873, George Henderson began his footballing career in junior football firstly with Coatbridge St Patrick’s in 1891, before moving onto a side close to his home in the the shape of Burnbank Swifts in 1892. The Half Back joined Motherwell in 1893 but appearances were hard to come by. George moved onto Airdrieonians in 1895 before travelling down to England where he represented Preston North End, Swindon Town, Millwall Athletic and Nottingham Forest before returning to Scotland to join Hamilton Acas. It was perhaps Forest where he enjoyed his best football as he made over a century of appearances at The City Ground but his spell did end on a dour note as they slipped to relegation.
