Huge bearded man, JoeJoyce came to Motherwell at the time when Ian St John was the manager and the first impressions suggested this was a guy who could dominate the heart of the ‘Well defence. During season 1973/74 he and Willie Pettigrew were earmarked as two reserves most likely to break into the first team picture. For John he was tried in several different positions in the reserves and a first team career was starting to look more and more likely. However, appearances proved deceptive and he did not impress sufficiently. He soon left the club, having made just two substitute appearances in the 1974/75 campaign.
