Lee Lucas

Lee LucasBorn in Aberdare, Wales Lee Lucas initially joined Motherwell in July 2016 on a short term deal. The midfielder would make his debut listed as a trialist as Motherwell took on Annan Athletic on the 23rd July 2016 in the newly revamped League Cup competition. He was however unfortunate as an injury forced him off after only 35 minutes.

The biggest issue with Lee Lucas career to date was that he was injury prone, the 24 year old had only made a handful of appearances before joining the club, Lee had suffered a number of career threatening injuries during his time with Swansea City which meant long lay offs, one injury of course was a fractured back which kept him out for an entire campaign.

It seemed Motherwell moved on from Lucas as another midfielder in the shape of Craig Clay appeared, who in a similar fashion was named as a trialist in the League Cup games and then effectively won a two year deal. Lucas was released on the 31st August but somewhat surprisingly he was signed again on a short term deal in mid September.

His time with Motherwell was blighted with various injuries and he would never really establish himself as a first team regular. He made his second debut against Hearts in a 3-1 defeat. Lee did put in a wonderful performance in a match where Motherwell ran riot over Ross County recording a 4-1 win. He enjoyed an extended run in the team in December 2016 but he got sent off in the Hogmanay Lanarkshire derby due to a reckless challenge.

Many expected him to move on mainly due to his injury issues but his contract was extended until the end of the season. Lee was more of an elegant midfielder with fantastic passing ability, he would eventually fade out of the first team picture entirely as Stephen Pearson re-joined the club as well as new ‘Well boss Stephen Robinson opting to introduce young midfielders Shea Gordon and Allan Campbell.

His last game for the club was the instantly forgettable 7-2 defeat at the hands Aberdeen at Pittodrie where Lucas was hooked at half time.
