Mark McGhee brought Simon in on loan signing him on the last day of the January 2008 transfer window. He certainly looked a shrewd piece of business as he could play either in midfield or at left back where he was deployed on numerous occasions. He also proved to be handy at set pieces and could float delightful crosses into the box.
Simon would however struggle to command a regular starting position in the first eleven as the side we quite settled and had been performing well in the league. He made his debut against Kilmarnock in a 1-0 victory, the highlight of his stay was hitting the winner against Celtic at Parkhead in a game where Motherwell battled on with 10 men for 40 minutes. He also scored a fantastic free kick against Hibernian on the last day of the 2007/08 as the side beat Hibernian at Easter Road. Simon has also been capped at Scotland U21 level.
