Willie Leitch came to Motherwell straight from Wishaw High School, the 1946/47 season was of course the first official league campaign to take place after the conflicts of World War Two had ceased. The youngster would make quite an impression, despite only making five first team appearances for the club, he scored five goals against Hamilton Accies, Queen’s Park, Clyde and Queen of the South, it was only in a game versus St Mirren that he failed to score. It was somewhat unfortunate for the young forward that his route to the first team was barred by that of the free scoring ‘Buster’ Brown. In 1949 he was released by the club, his next port of call was to join Dumbarton.
