Frank Mulvaney was signed as a youngster from Forth Wanderers in 1985, the club had beaten off competition from a number of top English sides to secure his signature. He had actually been a professional earlier in his career with Albion Rovers and Stenhousemuir.
Mulvaney could be deployed in a central midfield role or on the wings. He made his Motherwell debut in December 1985 when the side played Rangers at Ibrox in a 1-0 defeat. When given a chance in the first team he failed to make his mark in proceedings and would subsequently leave the club in 1986. Frank tried his luck with East Stirlingshire but after only making a small amount of appearances he went back to the Junior league with Shotts Bon Accord.
