John was signed in 1978 from a club near Hamilton called Hillwood Boys Club. He could play either in defence or midfield so he was always going to be a useful player, but sadly he was another young player who promised so much and delivered so little. His league debut came in the season of 1980/81, but he found his feet in the championship winning side of 1981/82, but sadly he picked up an injury and missed the rest of the season. In the campaign of 1982/83 he wasn’t to feature in the senior side again and he was released at the end of it.
