John Muir signed from Rotherham United in June 1969 on a free transfer. He could play anywhere in the back line which made him quite a versatile addition to the squad. He proved to be a tough tackling defender who was alway reliable when called upon. He gave Motherwell six years service before departing Fir Park in 1975.
At Stair Park with Stranraer he made over 150 appearances in all competitions before moving onto Dunfermline Athletic in 1980.
