His ‘Well debut came in a 2-1 win over Stirling Albion in February 1968 when he was only 17 year old, Jimmy Wilson had been side-lined by illness and young John proved to be an able deputy when he was called upon, he scored his first goal for the club a few weeks later against Hearts at Tynecastle.
Murray managed to enjoy a spell as a regular but he dropped out the first team scene before heading to Stranraer, his time at Stair Park wasn’t overly successful and before long, John headed to the Juniors signing for Irvine Meadow.
