Outside-Right Johnny Murdoch came to Fir Park from Airdrieonians in 1928 and was in the famous forward line of Murdoch, McMenemy, McFadyen, Stevenson and Ferrier, scoring ten of ‘Wells league goals of the fantastic haul of 119 that were scored by the club during the League Championship winning side in 1932.
Most of his goals came from nodding in Bobby Ferrier’s crosses near the post. He also gained international recognition in 1931 where he played against Ireland.
After his playing days were over Johnny who was a New Stevenson man decided to move to Corby where he stayed until his death in September 1964.
He was also part of the Motherwell team which made a memorable tour of South Africa in 1931.
