Charlie was signed from Manchester United along with Willie Stewart. Young Charlie McGillivray was a reserve player who broke into the ‘Well side mid through the 1933/34 season featuring on the right wing berth, firstly in a scoring debut as the ‘Well defeated St Mirren 3-1 and his second was an impressive 6-3 victory over local rivals Airdrie. Despite performing well for the reserves that year he couldn’t dismantle Duncan Ogilvie for the right wing berth. He would spend six seasons at Fir Park without ever being a regular, He amassed a total of 46 first team appearances in Claret and Amber and also netted 22 times. Charlie had a short spell at managing Dundee United before ‘Well legend Willie McFadyen would take on that role.
