Chris McCart was a product of the Motherwell youth system and over the years, he has won many admirers. A towering centre back, he played over 300 games for the club in all competitions from 1984 to 1997 and when he left to join Falkirk, the Motherwell support were completely taken by surprise. The Bairns freed Chris after two seasons, his time at Brockville was sadly curtailed by injury problems. When he retired from playing, he moved to Celtic in a coaching capacity and when Eric Black joined Motherwell, as new manager, his coaching staff consisted of Chris along with Terry Butcher. Chris was a stalwart in the club’s 1991 Scottish Cup success, he also scored a number of vital goals in various fixtures. His son Jamie would follow in his footsteps in that he would become a professional footballer playing as a defender, he started his career with Celtic.
