Ellis Plummer

At the age of 11, Ellis Plummer joined the Manchester City Academy from Stockport County, he would progress onto the clubs Elite Development Squad and during the 2012/13 season he was nominated for the Academy player of the year award. Of course, over his stay with The Citizens the landscape of the club would change dramatically as they were bought over by a company from Abu Dhabi who would plough hundreds of millions into the club to make them one of the forces in European football. Effectively this slammed the door shut on many youngsters who progressed through the ranks.

Ellis would be loaned out on a number of occasions, firstly with Oldham Athletic and secondly with St Mirren during the 2014/15 season, despite making a fantastic first impression with the Buddies an injury ended his spell prematurely and he was sent back to the City of Manchester Stadium after 7 appearances.

Plummer was released from Manchester City at the end of the 2016/17 season having failed to make a senior appearance for the Sky Blues. After training with Motherwell for a short spell he was offered a one year deal which he signed on the 2nd August 2017. Ellis has the distinction of being Motherwell’s first ever 4th Sub used in a game when he came off the bench in extra time in a League Cup tie as the Steelmen beat Ross County 3-2, despite this being his debut it would also be his last appearance for the club as an injury sustained at the clubs winter training camp in Tenerife would rule him out for the end of the season after which his contract wasn’t renewed.

On the 2nd September 2019, his 25th birthday, Ellis put a statement on social media saying that he had retired from playing due to medical advice as numerous injuries had blighted his career.
