Born in Edinburgh on the 24th August 1973, Innes Ritchie signed up for Motherwell as a two year apprentice in 1995. He was a central defender who found first team appearances limited largely because players such as Brian Martin, Mitchell Van der Gaag, John Philliben and Chris McCart all barred his route. He did however manage to register twelve appearances in all competitions for the Steelmen before moving on in January 1997 when he joined East Fife.
Innes would spend the majority of his career in the lower Scottish Leagues as he would also go on to serve Berwick Rangers (twice), Clydebank, Arbroath and then finally Cowdenbeath.
