Joe Reid signed for Motherwell in 1941 from Polkemmet Juniors. Officially the forward only represented the club in six first team matches between 1946 – 1948, but he did represent the club with many appearances during the unofficial war years. A few months after his ‘Well arrival he scored in both 2-1 victories over Celtic in the Summer Cup quarter final, in the 1942/43 season he had scored 16 times. After the war he lost his place in the side as the Scottish game returned to normality and Joe departed Fir Park in 1948.
