William Rodger joined the club shortly after the famous Championship win in 1931/32. Motherwell of course had a vast array of talent at their disposal and the side was settled so William had to wait patiently for his chance. Chances of course would prove to be rather limited and in his two years at Fir Park he made only one league appearance, thus coming during the 1934/35 season. In the latter part of his ‘well career he was curtailed by injury, most notably in November 1935 he had taken ill and was taken into a nursing home suffering from appendicitis. Unfortunately for William he wasn’t to receive any wages until he was fit enough to return to work after having his appendix removed. In 1936 he joined Babcock & Wilcox followed by a brief stay in Edinburgh with St Bernards.
