Davie started his senior career with Cowdenbeath before joining Clydebank in 1984. He stayed there until Motherwell swooped for his signature in 1988, but one year later he was off to Falkirk. After Falkirk he joined Stirling Albion. He was a defensive-midfielder and he was at his best when he was asked to ‘Shadow’ a player throughout the duration of a game. Once he did this memorably against Ray ‘Butch’ Wilkins when the Steelmen beat the Gers in 1989. Throughout his stay at Motherwell he had to battle against the critics and it was also quite sad that most of the Fir Park faithful never took to Davie.
