Another player to fall into that band of one game wonders. John Stewart was signed in 1958 by Bobby Ancell, Of course players such as Ian St John, Charlie Aitken, and Sammy Reid amongst other Ancell Babes were difficult to displace from their respective positions, and it was most disappointing that he would only make 1 appearance in his 3 year association with the club. His one appearance came on 3rd April 1958 as the ‘Well beat Celtic 2-0 at Fir Park as the side romped to a 3rd place finish. The reason he actually made an appearance was because both Sammy Reid and Bert McCann were out nursing knocks. In 1961 John finally left the club as he joined Greenock Morton.
