M. Smith was on Motherwell’s books for two seasons, first appearing in the clubs pale blue jerseys in the 1898/99 Season. He would score his first goal for the club on 3rd December 1898 as Motherwell played host to Ayr United at Fir Park and won 3-1 thanks mainly to the contribution of Smith. The following season met him with a little more success as he managed to increase his goal haul as in 22 starts he’d manage a goal return of 14. He departed Fir Park in 1900 having helped the club achieve two 4th place finishes back to back.
