Born on the 17th March 1998 in Rotterdam, Sherwin Seedorf had an eventful youth career which took him from Dutch outfits Excelsior to NAC Breda and then to Feyenoord where he spent seven years. He would later move onto the NIKE Academy who ran a squad of under 20’s players who had been released by their previous clubs and the main aim was to help them find a new professional club. The programme has proved to be success for many and for young Sherwin he was eventually signed by English side Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Ultimately the young winger failed to make the breakthrough into the first team at the Molineux but he did finally get a taste of senior football as he was farmed out on loan on two occasions where he gained some valuable experience, firstly he joined Bradford City in League One and secondly FC Jumilla who were playing in the Segunda Division B.
Upon his departure from Wolves he would arrive at Fir Park in July 2019 signing a two year contract. The media initially seemed to be more concerned about his family connections rather than his footballing ability as he was constantly asked about his link to the Dutch legend Clarence Seedorf, and yes he is a distant relative.
Sherwin would make an instant impression on his debut, as he scored in a 3-0 win over Queen of the South in a League Cup group stage tie.
Capable of playing either on the left or right wing he had actually arrived not so long after the club had signed another winger who came in the shape of Jermaine Hylton, perhaps being eager to impress from the get go the early form of the winger’s mirrored each other, both made scoring debuts against QOTS, Sherwin and Jermaine both got on the scoresheet after the 90th minute mark. In back to back league games against Hibernian and Hearts respectively, both players scored in each game as the side recorded two impressive wins.
Seedorf’s initial impression at Fir Park was that of great promise, his solo effort against Hibernian proved to be a lovely finish after a surging running into the box but he topped this off in the next fixture against the Jambo’s at Tynecastle where he intercepted a slack pass and feared down on the opposition box at space before he unleashed a venomous drive which cracked the underside of the bar and into then into the back of the net.
He possessed an abundance of pace and was happy to take on his opponents but sadly as time wore on that early promise seemed too quickly fizzle out. Sherwin’s first season in Lanarkshire would see the side finish 3rd in the league but the campaign was brought to an early finish due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The following season he was a regular in the match day squads for the first half of the season and enjoyed a few appearances in Europe as ‘Well dispatched Northern Irish position Glentoran and Coleraine. Seedorf lost his place in the side when new manager Graham Alexander came in and quickly started adding new additions in January 2021. When the end of the 2020/21 season came to a close it was no surprise when Sherwin Seedorf’s name was on the list of player departures.
