William Telford also known as ‘John’ was a stocky inside forward, he signed for the club from Third Lanark arriving in 1949. He was a regular scorer for the clubs reserve side with 13 goals to his name but he couldn’t replicate this form when he was given a chance in the top side as during the 1949/50 season he would only register 7 first team appearances without scoring any goals, however on a number of occasions he was asked to fill in as left full back. Failing to make his mark at Fir Park, Telford was put on the transfer list, his next port of call would be to serve Ayr United before heading south to join English side Cheltenham Town.
