Full Back Ian Weir joined the club in 1960, he previously was on the books at Clyde and had requested a free transfer from Shawfield which was granted. Ian was a Motherwell fan, who actually stayed a minute or so from Fir Park. Ian’s task at Motherwell was to take over the problematic left-back role, the departure of Archie Shaw creating a huge vacuum. He filled this position for most of 1960/61 season. At one stage there were three Weir’s on the books at Motherwell and remarkably they played in the same team on several occasions. Ian just lived around the corner from Fir Park. When Matt Thomson arrived on the Fir Park scene Ian couldn’t fend off his challenge. Ian moved to Stirling Albion in 1962.
