This young striker was signed from highland league side Rothes. Martin attracted interest from a couple of English sides including premiership side Everton, but he opted to stay in Scotland and joined Motherwell for a fee of around £10,000, which was a big fee considering he was only an inexperienced 17 year old. His debut came on the opening day of the 2000/01 campaign, where Motherwell were playing Dundee, he came on as a first half substitute but failed to make any impact. He really struggled to impose himself at this level, the following season he failed to make one single appearance but did find himself out on loan to 3rd division highland outfit Peterhead, he did well there netting a few goals. Sadly when he returned to Motherwell the club went into interim administration and Martin was sacked along with another 18 players. He was snapped up the following season by Ross County, but he struggled there and was released at the end of season 2002/03, but he was signed by Montrose. While at Ross County he made some newspaper headlines, while out with team mates playing bingo he struck it lucky by winning a sizeable jackpot.
