TV and Radio

On Saturday 11th January 1936, the BBC made their first live radio broadcast from Fir Park Stadium. Alan Breck, a journalist for the Scottish Daily Express provided the commentary as the Steelmen drew 1-1 with Clyde, John McMenemy netted the ‘well goal.

It wasn’t until over two decades later until TV cameras would make an appearance at Fir Park for the first time. Saturday 6th February 1960 was the day in question, BBC filmed highlights of the game against Hibernian. Despite Andy Weir netting a double and Ian St John getting on the scoresheet, the Hibees ran out 4-3 winners. 12,599 were in attendance at Fir Park in which was a terrific advert for Scottish football.
